To
tapear
Cadiz
capital has a wide range of bars for tapeo and mesons.
In the old part we will recommend you to go to "Zorrilla"
street, near of "Mina" Square. All along that street
there are places where you can taste some shrimps with
a cold beer or more elaborated tapas. At "Mina" Square,
"Mesón Miguel Ángel" offers the possibility of sitting
there and eating good dishes.
Around the old part of Cadiz, there are lots of bars
of this kind, so the visitor will have no problem to
find them. We underline "Nuevo Almacen", near a central
square, "Palillero", where you can taste cold cut, together
with more elaborated dishes.
An obliged visit is "La Viña" quarter, where you can
taste a very typical dish in Cadiz: mackerel with a
kind of salad called "piriñaca". At "Las Flores" Square
you can eat from an afternoon snack (merienda) with
chocolate and churros at "La Marina", to the fried fish
(pescaíto frito), the most traditional "tapeo" or even
some Italian food.
Going out the old part of Cadiz, called "Puerta Tierra",
and above all, "Paseo Marítimo" are full of places to
eat. Here there are lots of bars of "tapas" among we
underline "La Montanera" with its small rolls called
"montaditos", "Las Flores" specialized in fried fish,
also around the old part of the city, all of them with
terraces full of people looking at the sea.
To
eat
As
regards the restaurants, the visitor can choose among
multiple options. We start with the old part of the
city, talking about "El Faro", one of the best places
to eat all around the province. It is located at the
bottom of Cadiz, near "Campo del Sur", where you can
enjoy the beautiful sights of the its Bay.
Next to the Town-Hall, behind the "Conference Hall",
there is another restaurant, "Atxuri", with an excellent
selection of Spanish dishes, but specialized in food
form the Basque Country. Next to it, we find "El Aljibe",
a comfortable place with quality food. At "Paseo Marítimo",
"La Marea" offers a wide range of shellfish and other
dishes, next to "Reina Victoria" Hotel; the restaurant
"Arte Serrano" combines a care esthetics with dishes
of the Cadiz Mountain Chain. Going on the beach line,
we find "Puntaparrilla", a restaurant whose meat selection
will satisfy the most exigent taste.
The coffee
It is not difficult to find a good place to have a coffee
in Cadiz. The weather lets do it in a great number of
terraces distributed around the beach. We could mention
a large list of cafeterias, but we will put some examples
to make easy the journey.
Thus, if we want to eat some sweets, we will go to "El
Unicornio", near "Puertas de Tierra" and located at
"Paseo Marítimo" in front of "Santa María del Mar" beach.
It is a nice place where the selection of cakes is very
attractive. At "Victoria" beach, the sweets and coffee
are also the protagonists of "Bonsai". If we stay at
the old part of the city, we should go to "Plaza de
las Flores", where a good portion of churros with coffee
or chocolate will serve us to recover till the suppertime.
Cinema
and shows
Other
possibilities of leisure in the city are the cinema
and the shows. The protagonist of the latest is "Gran
Teatro Falla", located at the old part of the city and
which offers a select cultural program during the whole
year. There you can enjoy of plays and music groups
and songwriters.
In the summertime we have also "Teatro Pemán", an outdoor
place where you can enjoy with the presence of famous
artists, located at the old part of the city, next to
"Parque Genovés", and near "Teatro Falla".
If you prefer watching a movie there are two shopping
centers in the city: "El Centro" in "Plaza del Palillero",
(old part of the city), and "Centro Comercial Bahía
de Cádiz", where "El Corte Inglés" has recently opened
a great shop.
Drinks
and dance
To end the day with a drink, Cadiz has pubs that open
their doors at the evening, most of them located at
"Muñoz Arenillas" street, behind "Hotel Meliá" and "Paseo
Marítimo". There is a wide range of bars. Very near,
there are other places where you can dance till the
dawn, such as "Las Pérgolas".
If you choose the old part of the city, there is a street,
"Manuel Rancés", where you can find numerous pubs.
The
province
The
possibilities of leisure in Cadiz do not end at the
capital. A visit to the numerous beaches of the Bay
or the rest of the province, villages such as Rota,
Chipiona, Sanlúcar... the wine cellars in Jerez, white
villages (pueblos blancos), or Cadiz mountain chain,
will complete an unforgettable journey.
At these villages the offer is as wide as in the capital.
At El Puerto de Santa María we recommend a good lunch
or supper at "Ribera del Marisco", a place to eat some
shellfish. To have a drink, the dock or a place called
"Las Beatillas".
Shopping
Cadiz
city offers also the possibility of enjoying a day going
shopping. Besides, the Shopping Center "Bahía
de Cádiz", the excellent weather of the
capital has made possible that the sellers of the old
part of Cadiz form a group called "Cádiz
Centro-Club de Calidad" (Cadiz Center - Quality
Club), an association that offers a shopping center
opened to which more than a hundred shops form part.
The
quality and personal manners of the shops located in
the old part of the city join together with the different
recreation activities, such as music shows, theaters
that during the weekend reach its height.
We
recommend you a tour around the streets San Francisco,
Columela, Corneta Soto Guerrero, Plaza de las Flores,
Sacramento or Sagasta, among others, where you could
make your purchases at a reasonable price.
