To tapear

Cadiz capital has a wide range of bars for tapeo and mesons. In the old part we will recommend you to go to "Zorrilla" street, near of "Mina" Square. All along that street there are places where you can taste some shrimps with a cold beer or more elaborated tapas. At "Mina" Square, "Mesón Miguel Ángel" offers the possibility of sitting there and eating good dishes.
Around the old part of Cadiz, there are lots of bars of this kind, so the visitor will have no problem to find them. We underline "Nuevo Almacen", near a central square, "Palillero", where you can taste cold cut, together with more elaborated dishes.
An obliged visit is "La Viña" quarter, where you can taste a very typical dish in Cadiz: mackerel with a kind of salad called "piriñaca". At "Las Flores" Square you can eat from an afternoon snack (merienda) with chocolate and churros at "La Marina", to the fried fish (pescaíto frito), the most traditional "tapeo" or even some Italian food.
Going out the old part of Cadiz, called "Puerta Tierra", and above all, "Paseo Marítimo" are full of places to eat. Here there are lots of bars of "tapas" among we underline "La Montanera" with its small rolls called "montaditos", "Las Flores" specialized in fried fish, also around the old part of the city, all of them with terraces full of people looking at the sea.

To eat

As regards the restaurants, the visitor can choose among multiple options. We start with the old part of the city, talking about "El Faro", one of the best places to eat all around the province. It is located at the bottom of Cadiz, near "Campo del Sur", where you can enjoy the beautiful sights of the its Bay.
Next to the Town-Hall, behind the "Conference Hall", there is another restaurant, "Atxuri", with an excellent selection of Spanish dishes, but specialized in food form the Basque Country. Next to it, we find "El Aljibe", a comfortable place with quality food. At "Paseo Marítimo", "La Marea" offers a wide range of shellfish and other dishes, next to "Reina Victoria" Hotel; the restaurant "Arte Serrano" combines a care esthetics with dishes of the Cadiz Mountain Chain. Going on the beach line, we find "Puntaparrilla", a restaurant whose meat selection will satisfy the most exigent taste.

The coffee

It is not difficult to find a good place to have a coffee in Cadiz. The weather lets do it in a great number of terraces distributed around the beach. We could mention a large list of cafeterias, but we will put some examples to make easy the journey.

Thus, if we want to eat some sweets, we will go to "El Unicornio", near "Puertas de Tierra" and located at "Paseo Marítimo" in front of "Santa María del Mar" beach. It is a nice place where the selection of cakes is very attractive. At "Victoria" beach, the sweets and coffee are also the protagonists of "Bonsai". If we stay at the old part of the city, we should go to "Plaza de las Flores", where a good portion of churros with coffee or chocolate will serve us to recover till the suppertime.

Cinema and shows

Other possibilities of leisure in the city are the cinema and the shows. The protagonist of the latest is "Gran Teatro Falla", located at the old part of the city and which offers a select cultural program during the whole year. There you can enjoy of plays and music groups and songwriters.
In the summertime we have also "Teatro Pemán", an outdoor place where you can enjoy with the presence of famous artists, located at the old part of the city, next to "Parque Genovés", and near "Teatro Falla".
If you prefer watching a movie there are two shopping centers in the city: "El Centro" in "Plaza del Palillero", (old part of the city), and "Centro Comercial Bahía de Cádiz", where "El Corte Inglés" has recently opened a great shop.

Drinks and dance

To end the day with a drink, Cadiz has pubs that open their doors at the evening, most of them located at "Muñoz Arenillas" street, behind "Hotel Meliá" and "Paseo Marítimo". There is a wide range of bars. Very near, there are other places where you can dance till the dawn, such as "Las Pérgolas".
If you choose the old part of the city, there is a street, "Manuel Rancés", where you can find numerous pubs.

The province

The possibilities of leisure in Cadiz do not end at the capital. A visit to the numerous beaches of the Bay or the rest of the province, villages such as Rota, Chipiona, Sanlúcar... the wine cellars in Jerez, white villages (pueblos blancos), or Cadiz mountain chain, will complete an unforgettable journey.
At these villages the offer is as wide as in the capital. At El Puerto de Santa María we recommend a good lunch or supper at "Ribera del Marisco", a place to eat some shellfish. To have a drink, the dock or a place called "Las Beatillas".

Shopping

Cadiz city offers also the possibility of enjoying a day going shopping. Besides, the Shopping Center "Bahía de Cádiz", the excellent weather of the capital has made possible that the sellers of the old part of Cadiz form a group called "Cádiz Centro-Club de Calidad" (Cadiz Center - Quality Club), an association that offers a shopping center opened to which more than a hundred shops form part.

The quality and personal manners of the shops located in the old part of the city join together with the different recreation activities, such as music shows, theaters that during the weekend reach its height.

We recommend you a tour around the streets San Francisco, Columela, Corneta Soto Guerrero, Plaza de las Flores, Sacramento or Sagasta, among others, where you could make your purchases at a reasonable price.
